One Time at Fish Camp
Maybe it was your very first summer on the setnet site, or maybe it was last week when the tide came in faster than you expected. Fish camp is where nets tangle, tides surprise, and tall tales are born. Did you learn something the hard way? Burn the salmon on the grill? Fall asleep on the skiff? Or maybe you just remember the smell of smoke in your clothes and the sound of waves under the midnight sun. Whatever it is, if it happened at fish camp — we want to hear it.
Back In My Day
Every generation swears things used to be harder, better, or just plain different. Maybe you hiked uphill both ways to school, or maybe Kodiak’s grocery store shelves were emptier than they are now. Was the fish bigger, the weather worse, the Coast Guard stricter? Or maybe you just remember a way of life that’s slowly fading. Tell us your “back in my day” story — whether it’s full of wisdom, exaggeration, or just a good laugh.
Airport Stories
Kodiak travelers know the airport is more than a building — it’s a stage for comedies, dramas, and cliffhangers. Maybe you’ve sprinted through security, spent the night on the floor waiting for weather to clear, or tried to explain a box of frozen fish to TSA. Sometimes it’s joyful reunions, sometimes heartbreaking goodbyes, and sometimes just endless delays with bad coffee. Whatever happened between check-in and baggage claim, we want to hear your airport story.
Hold My Beer
Some stories start with a smart plan. Others start with someone saying, “Hold my beer.” Maybe it was a daring stunt that worked out — or didn’t. Maybe it was a fishing trip, a hunting story, or just a backyard moment that turned legendary. From close calls to spectacular wipeouts to unexpected triumphs, these are the tales that begin with confidence and end with a story worth telling.
Don't Tell Mom
Some adventures are best kept under wraps… at least for a while. Maybe it was sneaking an extra cookie, skipping school, or borrowing the car without asking. Maybe it was a wild scheme that went sideways, or a harmless bit of fun that felt scandalous at the time. These are the stories you swore you’d never confess — the ones that make you laugh now but would have earned you that look back then.
Deckhand Diaries
Life on deck is hard work, long hours, and stories that stick with you forever. Maybe it was your first season, learning knots and hauling lines. Maybe it was a storm that tested your sea legs, or the prank that made a brutal day a little lighter. From greenhorn mistakes to seasoned grit, the deck has seen it all. Share the stories that never made it into the logbook — the ones only a deckhand could tell.
